ABOUT US

Our Mission

Established in 2006, Rollercoaster Theatre is Australia’s largest professional ensemble of trained actors with intellectual disabilities.

Our mission is to offer a safe andinclusive space that champions authentic, autonomous representation, while elevating the profile of Neurodivergent performers and actors with intellectual disabilities.

We aim to reshape societal perceptions of disability through our powerful work in theatre, film, and performance art.

Our Story

Since 2007, we have provided a platform where Neurodivergent actors and people with intellectual disabilities can shine.

We believe that our work is not therapy; it’s bold, mainstream art that has the power to educate, entertain, and inspire change.

By fostering community and artistic growth, we have created a thriving ensemble that proudly takes the stage as leaders in inclusive theatre.

Values & Approach

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to disability-led practices, supporting the individual artistic agency of each actor.

We focus on showcasing the unique perspectives of the ensemble by empowering them to tell their own stories through theatre, film, and performance art practices.

We strive for artistic excellence, constantly pushing the boundaries of form, experimentation, and new art mediums.

Programs & Services

We deliver a variety of programs and services, including theatrical productions, film projects, and workshops, presented across established theatre venues, corporate functions, community events, educational forums, and film festivals.

Our work celebrates diverse perspectives, amplifies marginalised voices, and contributes to a richer, more inclusive arts landscape.

STAFF

Dedication. Expertise. Passion.

With an active, hands-on approach, they provide strategic guidance, support our bold artistic vision, and help ensure our long-term sustainability.

Their collective energy and expertise empower the organisation to continuously push boundaries, champion artistic excellence, and create space for the ensemble to thrive.

The board’s involvement is integral to our mission—fostering growth, connection, and innovation every step of the way.

Acknowledgement of Country

As storytellers, we acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land we gather on. We’re grateful to create on this land, knowing storytelling has been part of its history for thousands of years. It has held cultures and communities long before us, and we honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Elders who continue to care for it today. We recognise the impact of colonisation and the absence of a treaty, and we commit to amplifying the voices of First Nations peoples and working towards truth, justice, and reconciliation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
