David Baker

A Master of Many Stages

A founding member of Rollercoaster Theatre, David is a multifaceted artist with talents spanning acting, stilt walking, and balloon artistry. His theatre journey began with training at Ignition Theatre (2005, NMIT) and VCAL Arts and Multimedia (2007, Swinburne TAFE), leading to a Diploma of Theatre Arts (2009, Swinburne TAFE).

David’s passion for performance took him to Red Stitch Actors Theatre for a two-year internship (2011) and to London for a professional development opportunity at the Unlimited UK Arts Festival (2012). He also starred in Casa Del Crip(2013), a groundbreaking sitcom pilot exploring the lives of people with disabilities.

Beyond the stage, David volunteers with FOG Theatre and is a member of RAG Theatre and Dream Theatre. He also contributes behind the scenes as a Camera Operator and Floor Manager with Disability Media Australia. When he’s not performing, you’ll find him working as an usher at The Melbourne Arts Centre or entertaining audiences as a stilt walker and balloon artist at community events.

Acknowledgement of Country

As storytellers, we acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land we gather on. We’re grateful to create on this land, knowing storytelling has been part of its history for thousands of years. It has held cultures and communities long before us, and we honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Elders who continue to care for it today. We recognise the impact of colonisation and the absence of a treaty, and we commit to amplifying the voices of First Nations peoples and working towards truth, justice, and reconciliation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
