Dream Factory

Step into Dream Factory, an immersive performance installation that invited audiences into the real and imagined worlds of the Rollercoaster Ensemble. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, this captivating experience delved into themes of isolation, connection, and the yearning for escapism.

Housed in the windows of No Vacancy Gallery, located in the heart of Melbourne's QV Building, Dream Factory created a liminal space where aspiration met reality. Through interactive performances held throughout the day and evening, visitors witnessed the transformative power of dreams as the Rollercoaster ensemble took them on a journey of insight, creativity, and connection.

This bold and innovative work was driven by the desires and aspirations of the ensemble themselves. By performing behind glass windows in a public space, we not only activated new arts audiences but also gave our ensemble a larger platform to have their voices heard.

Dream Factory wasn’t just a performance, it was a chance for Melbourne audiences to participate in an enriching and vital discourse around disability and the arts. It fostered genuine connections, leaving audiences both moved and uplifted.

Accolades: Dream Factory was awarded two Melbourne Fringe Judges’ Picks and earned a 3-star review in The Age, which described it as “Funny, Fringe-y. A free event worth stopping for.” A Fringe Judge commented, “Guaranteed to make you smile,” and noted that the ensemble featured “Some of the most responsive and charismatic performers to date.”

Acknowledgement of Country

As storytellers, we acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land we gather on. We’re grateful to create on this land, knowing storytelling has been part of its history for thousands of years. It has held cultures and communities long before us, and we honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Elders who continue to care for it today. We recognise the impact of colonisation and the absence of a treaty, and we commit to amplifying the voices of First Nations peoples and working towards truth, justice, and reconciliation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
