Golden Encounters

Golden Encounters is an experimental exploration of movement in relation to the environment, asking how our surroundings shape our connection to each other and to ourselves.

Performed and filmed at Melbourne’s stunning Royal Botanic Gardens at dusk, this work brought together Rollercoaster Theatre's three ensembles - the established Studio ensemble, the newly formed Emerging ensemble, and the Millswyn ensemble - creating a powerful collaboration for the first time.

This piece delves into themes of connection and isolation, offering a profound reflection on how we move within, and are moved by, the spaces around us.

Acknowledgement of Country

As storytellers, we acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, the traditional owners of the land we gather on. We’re grateful to create on this land, knowing storytelling has been part of its history for thousands of years. It has held cultures and communities long before us, and we honour the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Elders who continue to care for it today. We recognise the impact of colonisation and the absence of a treaty, and we commit to amplifying the voices of First Nations peoples and working towards truth, justice, and reconciliation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
